Sound Designer/Foley Artist

Ninja Gaiden Redesign
This was my first ever sound redesign, and I tried many unique things with the objects I used to create the sounds within this clip. From ice trays, kitchen knives, and fuses to condoms, jello, and pudding, I tried to think outside the box with this one! It showed me that anything can be molded into a good sound effect if you put enough effort into it.
Blood SFX Creation
Anything Can Be A Sound
This is by far my favorite project I worked on due to one thing: the objects I used to create my samples. I wanted to think as far outside the box as I could, and boy, did I push the boundary. My favorite SFX creation method was the making of the blood splatters. I used a condom, combined with a mixture of Jell-O, water, and pudding. It sounds gross, but that's what I was going for!
Learning To Texture
One of the main issues I ran into while making this redesign was getting a good "shing" noise for the sword as it swung and missed. At the beginning, I focused too hard on how the sword would sound in real life, making it feel hollow and uncreative since it was basically just wind. However, I fixed this issue by texturing in layers that wouldn't normally be heard when not making contact, like metal scrapes and metal ringing. These layers added a depth to the sound that brought it to the next level in my mix.
Sword Swing SFX Creation
Wind Spin SFX Creation
Motion SFX
Another challenge I ran into came at the hands of the final SFX in the mix: the large, spinning impact. It sounded ok, but it felt like something was missing, since the SFX was mainly just the grip noise and the impact at the end of the motion. After some thought, I realized that creating SFX for the motion of the character through the air would give the sound more feeling, causing me to add spinning wind SFX as the character rotated in the air. This filled out the akward middle area while the character was falling down, making the sound much better overall.
Conclusion
This project provided me with many valuable learning experiences that can be seen throughout my newer works, especially learning the power of layering things rather than relying on a single sample to carry a certain SFX. Knowing this has caused me to become more creative with my mixes, adding in more and more layers to fully make a sound feel complete.
